The Coach's Letter

Author’s Note: This is a letter from Casey’s coach regarding what he did at the last game. The coach explains his consequences.

9/28/11

Dear Casey,

You’re probably getting tons of letters regarding you striking out. Just remember to always respond to them and be respectful. I am very disappointed in you Casey. How could you let your team and me, your coach, down in front of everyone? You could have hit any of those balls but you decided to act cool and what happened? You struck out. You ruined our chance of winning.

A story reminded me of what you did. It was about a young man that was in high school, kind of like you. He thought he was the coolest, smartest and best looking guy in the school and to some people he was. Everything was perfect for him and nothing could go wrong. But something happened one morning. When he got home from school, his parents were not home. His parents were always home when he got home from school. So, he called them. No one answered. Then he tried his aunt. When she picked up the phone, she was balling her eyes out. He found out his parents had died in a car accident that morning. It changed him forever and he was never the same again.

You need something to make you act better and more mature. So, I have made my decision. You are being thrown off the team. I know this is a very big risk for the team but you need to learn how to handle yourself. I hope you learn and come back on the team next year. Have a good day.

Sincerely,

Coach Bates
