What would you do if your family was a mess, with a dad that left you when you were three and a mom who couldn’t hold up a job? Wouldn’t life be pretty hard? A lot of young children go through this kind of thing every day, which is what the story The Card is about. The Card by James Ross is a story that I can relate and not so much relate to.
I can relate to the story by having a dad that is gone all the time. When I was little I barely got to see my dad because he was traveling all the time for his job. It felt like he wasn’t there anymore for me but I knew he was. Even though I am a girl, boys around the world feel like that because if they are the only boy in the house, they need a dad to play catch or shoot hoops with. The boy in the story feels alone because he doesn’t have someone like that. I can also relate to the story by having other siblings. Siblings are a pain at times, that don’t listen to you or fight with you, but remember, deep inside, they are only trying to make you a better person.
Even though I can relate to story, The Card, some parts of it are nothing like my life. In the story, Mam is a horrible mother that cannot get a nice boyfriend, save money or keep a good job. My life would be a nightmare because my mom is the only one that I can really talk to. While the mom in the story was being an awful mother, my mom has a great job, husband and saves money for all of her children for education in the future. Mam is the main controller, in the story, which is very different from my family because it’s usually my dad that is making money and going to work. Our lives are very different from each other, but at the same time very similar.
The Card was a very interesting book that I could relate and not relate to. I know that my dad will always be there for me and so will my family. That just shows how important a great family is and how it can affect you in the future.

Double Dare by Cathy Hopkins
What if you got yourself into a huge dating disaster and didn’t know how to fix it? What would you do? Well, Mac got himself into just this. His life was like a bad sitcom, but usually very funny to his friends. Double Dare by Cathy Hopkins was obviously a comedy by its plot line, characteristics and symbolism.
The first spot on the plot line is a normal, everyday life. At the beginning of the book, Mac has a normal, everyday life with his parents divorced and enjoying the beautiful summer day. The second spot on the plot line is the main character causes a minor problem. Mac did cause a problem which was confusing a bunch of girls about being his girlfriend or not. It was a mess! The next spot on the plot line is that the conflict is realized. It was defiantly realized because his real girlfriend broke up with him and all the other girls got mad. The next spot was the resolution. Mac finally told all the girls the truth and got it all fixed. Which leads to the last spot on the plot line, back to normal, everyday life and that’s exactly how it ended with Mac and all the girls.
Even though the plot line is an important part in my decision, the characteristics really show that this is story is a comedy. One of the characteristics to a comedy is that it is realistic. This is obviously realistic because this could happen to any boy or young man. The other characteristic to a romance is that the main character is in control. Mac was in control because he was the one that fixed everything between him and the other girls. Even though sometimes one of the girls tried to take control, he always made sure he was the one in control.
While the characteristics really show that this story is a comedy, the symbolism truly helps understand why the story is a comedy. The time of day and time of the year fits exactly into the story. The whole book was about having fun in the summer with friends. It didn’t really talk about night time, just day time! It was always sunny and never once was there a rain storm! You could feel how natural and how bright the story was. Even though most parts of the book took place in the living room or kitchen, they were still outside a lot. When I read it, it felt like I was right there in the scene. That’s how great the author described its surrounding.
As you can see the plot line, characteristics and symbolism clearly state that Double Dare was a comedy. It wasn’t necessarily funny, but comedies in the mode of literature, don’t have to be! I wonder how it would be like if I had a dating disaster when I’m older. I would probably tell the truth, just like Mac did. The lesson learned was a truly important lesson in life.

The Boys Next Door
I got up out of the water and got back on my wake board. One more time, I gave Sean the thumbs up sign and I went. I stood up and since I was doing pretty good, I decided maybe to do some tricks. I jumped and did everything that I could! This was my thing. The Boys Next Door by Jennifer Echols is my favorite book of all time!
Something I really liked about the book is the plot line of the story. Adam had always been in love with Lori but Lori had always been in love with Sean. Finally they find who they really want to be with. The plot really shows who cares about you and how you’re special to that person. Other topics I enjoyed in the book were the boating and being out on the lake. I love to boat and water ski. This book really reminded me of last summer when I spent almost every day in the lake and boating.
Even though I really like the plot line of the story and I like the things they do, I enjoyed the moral of the story. It was no matter what, never give up. I can really relate to situations where you have to really try hard and don’t let go of what you believe in.
Overall The Boys Next Door by Jennifer Echols was a fantastic book! It shows how fun summer can be with the guys. No one knows how much excitement and adventure can come out of the summer, until now. How will you spend your summer?

The Purple Dog (Chain Story)
Ana walked up the street and saw something. The object was purple. It seemed fun and happy! It was a dog! The dog ended up being evil. She ran away from the dog, Ana thought it was safe but it wasn't. It started chasing after her and she ran. The dog found her and nearly ripped her arm off. Since Ana still had her arm, she climbed up a nearby tree. The tree was an apple tree so Ana started throwing apples at the dog. The purple dog finally went away. Ana was stuck at the top of the tree. She was afraid of heights and her hand was slipping. Every second went by, Ana's hand was getting more and more of the tree. She closed her eyes and fell.

SuperBowl
The Super Bowl is coming up this weekend and everyone in Wisconsin is sicked to see if the Green Bay Packers will win or the Steelers. I honestly don't really care since I am NOT a packer fan or a Steelers fan. So, it won't really matter to me. Now to everyone else in this state, it means A LOT! Everyone loves the Packers! I don't really know who will win, but I guess we'll see! In Georgia, no one was into football. I didn't even know they had a team!!! I'm excited to see who wins.(:

Poptarts!
Poptarts are my favorite breakfast food! I also eat them for a snack and sometimes dinner! They have all kinds of different kinds such as cherry, raspberry, blueberry and mixed berry! There is also other kinds that are not so healthy for breakfast such as cookies and cream, fudge brownie and milkshake! My family only eats the fruit kind because my mom doesn't let us eat the unhealthy ones. I usually eat my poptarts with butter and heated up in the toaster. A lot of people think its weird to eat it with butter but those people have never tried it! Surprisingly its delicious! I love poptarts!
